Welcome to Experiential Mental Health Counseling

We are a private group psychotherapy practice located in Rensselaer County. We offer individual, couples/families, and group counseling for ages 5 and up.

Experiential Therapies

We combine Experiential Therapies with more traditional talk therapies to meet the needs of our clients. Experiential Therapy is a modern and creative approach to holistic mental health treatment. Expressive tools and activities (such as art, role training, music, guided imagery, play, somatic experiences, etc.) are used to navigate and explore life’s challenges. These various forms of re-creation are used to allow individuals to re-enact and re-experience emotional situations from their past or in relationships in a safe space. Our goal is to prioritize safety to hold and release painful emotions and experiences, develop insight, and find more fulfillment and joy in life.

Ethics

Our core commitment is to our foundation of ethics. We seek to build a trust-based relationship to serve the needs of our clients, employees, and society. To do this, we invest in our employees' professional development, carefully consider how we as a business would like to participate in our community, and treat all clients with respect and professionalism.

Experiential MHC has a social responsibility to bring positive change to the lives of our employees, clients, and communities. We are committed to working in ways that are sensitive and responsive to systemic barriers preventing wellness for all. These commitments have been adapted from the ACA code of ethics, and our ongoing research into anti-capitalistic business practices. Our commitments to ourselves and our communities are as follows:

  • Following our code of ethics and promoting the dignity and welfare of others.

  • Using trauma informed language.

  • Unlearning white supremacy and ableism that is ingrained in the society we live in.

  • Advocating for the rights of the LGBTQIA+, Neurodiverse, and oppressed individuals.

  • Actively educating ourselves on current events and being aware of the current socio-political climate we live in.
